Grab your friends and your NERF gear and head out to Ushers Ferry to blow off some steam over Thanksgiving break! Are you ready to finish those UFO's (unfinished objects) in your sewing room? Get help in this old-fashioned sew-along. Come to Ushers Ferry for our last fall hayrack night with a Halloween twist! In addition to the hayrack ride, enjoy a children's craft, s'mores, and hot cocoa around the bonfire, and a very special, after-dark tour with one of the village's mysterious residents. Participants will bring a little bit of nature indoors to enjoy by creating their own mini winter porch pots. Small glass containers will be painted using chalk paint, filled with compost and then a variety of winter greens gathered from nature. Participants will also learn about the common confer trees found in Iowa. These mini porch make fun table decorations or even a gift for a special friend. Got cabin fever? Get out of the house and back to the days when it was really a problem! Join Ushers Ferry historian, Ann Cejka, on a short trip by van to visit some of Linn County's most infamous founding citizens who found their final rest out beyond the city limits. Get off the paved roads as we go to where our local history actually happened to find pioneer churches, schoolhouses, outlaws, vigilantes and even the first "cat lady" in Linn County history.
